コロナ禍真っ只中の８月。
ジョーのオフィシャルサイトからバースデーイベントの知らせが。
何でも #SaveOurStage への寄付イベントとのことで、ジョーゆかりの人たちがジョーのことを語り、ジョーの曲を演奏するというオンラインショーだ。
たくさんの人が名を連ねているので一体、何時間かかるのだろうと思っていたけれど、最終的には一人1曲、または1エピソード披露、という形でおよそ2時間のイベントだった。
ジョーの誕生日は8/21。現地時間の20時スタートなので、日本では22日の朝4時！スタート。うっ、起きてられるか。あるいは寝てから早起きするか……。結局、一人の時間が欲しくて完徹することにした。
出演者は、音楽界、映画界、政治家、コメディアンなどさまざま。ミュージシャンの人選は意外にもアメリカ人脈が多く、ジョーの人生の多様さに想いを馳せることになった。
白眉は、Lucinda Williamsの"Straight to hell" 。
この曲をライブでこんなにカッコ良く再現するなんて。
アレンジ自体は原曲に忠実だったけど、彼女のオーラ含めて曲が"生きて"いた。
他にも、Eugene Hützの「あの夜ジョーが言ったこと」。
どうもオリジナル曲のようで、歌詞を書き写しながら爆笑した。
熱い。熱すぎる。いや、暑すぎるのか。厚いのか。
ジョーが人生の一部である人たちの18年越しの追悼会。
きっと彼も喜んでいるだろう。
そして、アーティストたちのステージが一つでも多く存続しますように。
